Penang Eurasion Cuisine @ Burmah108 with Cora Capel

Cora has been a familiar face at the Little Penang Street Market – the once a month market which pools together the creative and quirky talents of Penang: chefs who cook at home, bag designers and jewellery collectors and the like.    From a Eurasian family in Penang, Cora had learnt the classic Eurasian dishes from her aunt when she was young.  Her mother encouraged her in her love for cooking, and she even got to a point where she started a restaurant in Southern Thailand.

But fate brought her back to Penang, and she’s now one of the leading caterers for anyone looking for Eurasian cuisine here.  Because she spent many years in Thailand,  and her husband was part-Thai, her cooking also has a strong Siamese influence. While Cora cooks up her own version of deeply-red Devilled Curry (with various meats, including roast pork, siew yoke style) and a non-spicy roast beef, she is also known for her Salt Fish Peda pickle.

Cora was born into a family of teachers, but although she chose not to go into that profession formally, it looks as if the teaching gene didn’t bypass her – as she’s now finally decided that it’s time to go into teaching, and to widen the audience for unique Penang Eurasian cuisine. Burmah108 can’t wait to start offering her classes to Penangites as well as visitors!
